Well I think it’s safe to say that in my part of the woods, Mother Nature has spoken. Winter is here.
Often times when the colder weather sets in people like to hibernate. So just in time for the New Year I am putting out a challenge to all of you to stay active during the infamous, sweater weather.
To help you do that I have created a top five list of things to do to stay active in the winter. Hopefully some of these will inspire you to pull out those long johns and get active; while others remind you of some fun and active indoor activities that are perfect for those extra cold days.
- Ice Skating
Ice skating is low impact and it can improve your balance and coordination. I have been known to solo skate a time or two but I prefer going with friends. I find there is nothing better than working on your fitness while with friends. It’s a perfect combination of socializing and being active.
- Indoor Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is a great way to use your lower and upper body muscles. Not to mention that all the stretching and reaching you will do really helps with improving your flexibility.
- Cross Country Skiing
If you’re looking for a way to get your cardio on while outdoors, cross country skiing is a sure bet!
Again, another great way to get active while being social. Why not get a group together to make a team and head on down to your nearest curling club?
- Fitness Classes
Fitness classes can range from yoga to an intense fitness boot camp! Whatever fitness level you are looking for, most fitness and wellness centers should have something to suit your needs. If you don’t feel comfortable going alone, ask a friend! It’s always a lot easier getting into a new experience with a familiar face.
I can’t wait to see what you all achieve in the New Year! 2016 is going to be one for the books. Stay healthy, stay well, and keep reaching to achieve your goals.
