This summer I am taking a page right out of Drake’s book to play dirty, not clean. I want to enjoy myself if I have a couple patio drinks, but I don’t want the unwanted calories.

So, I decided that I was going to get ahead of the game (i.e. play dirty) and find/create some delicious drinks that are low in calories. But what kind of person would I be if I didn’t share my “research” with all of you?

If you read on you’ll see this summer’s top 5 drinks that won’t make you have consumption regret… at least not calorie wise. 😉

1. Elderflower Gin

Elderflower Gin

Calories: 92

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 shot of Tanqueray London Dry Gin
  • 1 cup of lemon soda water
  • 1-2 splashed of St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
  • 1 lemon slice to garnish

Thoughts: This drink is SO refreshing. The Elderflower liqueur really brings out the best in the gin. The lemon soda water keeps things cool, and serving it over ice makes it the perfect drink for a hot summer day.

2. Citrus Vodka

Calories: 103

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 shot of Polar Ice Vodka
  • 1 freshly squeezed orange (no sugar added)
  • 1-2 splashes of soda water
  • 1 orange peel to garnish

Thoughts: This drink is really simple to make. The freshly squeezed citrus juice from a normal sized orange keep unnatural sugars at bay while also allowing you to enjoy a classic drink without all of the calories. The soda water was the perfect add-on because there are no calories or sugar compared to using club soda or ginger ale. You’ll see it used in almost all of these drinks as an awesome alternative.

3. Ginger Margarita

Calories: 195

Ingredients:

  • Salt rimmer (optional)
  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 shot of Sauza Tequila Gold
  • 1 Crabbie’s Ginger Beer
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice

Thoughts: Highest calorie drink on the list but a very tasty option. I’m sure you could also find some alternatives for lower calorie ginger beer as well. Our LCBO was just a bit limited as they only carried one brand. This drink is the perfect mix between sweet and savory. It’s perfect for those who love their margarita’s but don’t want to have the high sugar in-take that comes along with them.

4. Strawberry Rum Yum

Calories: 85

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot of Bacardi Rum
  • 100 grams of frozen strawberries (blended)
  •  1 slice of lemon to garnish

Thoughts: So I am a HUGE fan of slushy drinks in the summer. Especially when it is a really hot day. This alternative is awesome because it’s really low in calories and there are no added sugars. The Strawberry Rum was so refreshing and I don’t have to feel guilty after I have 1 or 2.

5. Skinnygrape Spritzer

Calories: 90

Thoughts: The only pre-made drink to make it to the list. While skinnygrape has a few different spritzer flavours I opted for the Sangria Sizzler. It was a light and bubbly drink that was really refreshing when served cold. Since I liked this flavour so much I will for sure be trying some of their others!
